New Shared Lane Designation

New Shared Lane designation along Antoine and Navigation
The City of Houston continues to expand the bikeway network through the construction of both on and off street bikeways. While many bicyclists are anxiously awaiting the completion of the trail extension along White Oak Bayou, there is also an on-street component to accompany the off-street facility. The pavement markings along Antoine are being revised to provide a 14 foot-wide outside lane. We're also adding the shared-lane pavement markings, known as 'sharrows', and Share the Road signage, to designate another segment of the roadway as an on-street bikeway.

In addition, when the City of Houston reconstructs or resurfaces a street, it can be the best opportunity to improve an on-street bikeway. As you are aware, we did replace some bike lanes with a wide outside shared lane along Washington Avenue, and we are currently in the process of doing the same along Wesleyan. The resurfacing of Navigation provided the opportunity to improve an existing signed bike route with the addition of 'Share the Road' signage and pavement markings. These signs and pavement markings are added along the outer departure lane from intersections.
